  1. Age
    23
  2. Profession
    student/worker
  3. For how long did you volunteer in Shianda?
    3 months
  4. Why did you decide to go to Kenya?
I have volunteered before in a country that is slightly similar to Kenya and because I feel kind of an addiction to do work abroad in places with totally different problems as we have here in the developed world, it was intriguing. I felt like I could really do something there that would have an impact in the smaller scale. And for some – in the bigger.
  5. Why did you decide to volunteer with WEFOCO?
WEFOCO is a good and trusted partner of Mondo who sent me there. So the decision was easy.
  6. What do you think about the work that is being done by WEFOCO?
I think it is very good and has good results. I think that the work WEFOCO is doping is practical and is reacting to most critical issues that actually generate bigger problems. So I am really satisfied.
  7. What kind of tasks did you have?
I had to be the interpreter for 3 deaf volunteers and also coordinate and organize their work.
  8. What did you like most about volunteering?
It sounds cliché but everything. Specially getting to know myself better.
  9. What was surprising?
It was quite hard to be surprised because when you go to a totally new environment which you don’t have any idea about then you keep your mind open to new experiences.
  10. What kind of additional information would you have liked to know before going to Kenya?
I didn’t felt the need for additional information as I think they give you expectations and then you already limit yourself with what you can really gain from these experiences.
  11. For what kind of difficulties the new volunteers should prepare themselves for?
If you don’t have an open mind and you feel assured how things should be, then be ready to adapt and make compromises. It is never going to happen the way you have planned, but in some cases it might be even more amazing.
  12. Tell about your favourite experience from Kenya.
I guess the best moments were after work when I was sitting in my garden and simply felt good because I felt I was doing the right thing and finally not worrying about things that really are not worth the effort.
  13. Do you miss something from Kenya/Shianda?
I miss how the people in Kenya understood life in a very simple way.
  14. Any other comments:)
    Thank you ☺
