  1. Age
    29
  2. Profession
    Dance instructor
  3. For how long did you volunteer in Shianda?
    3 months
  4. Why did you decide to go to Kenya?
I wanted new experiences so why not.
  5. Why did you decide to volunteer with WEFOCO?
Because Mondo assigned this organisation to us.
  6. What do you think about the work that is being done by WEFOCO?
I think WEFCO is a very good organization that covers different fields which are very useful. It does a good job.
  7. What kind of tasks did you have?
Firstly, teaching dancing, assisting teachers with their lessons, taking care of the children and grownups in women groups and taking them to the hospital, getting familiar with the dance culture here and exchanging ideas.
  8. What did you like most about volunteering?
Hard to say, i really liked everything so it is hard to highlight something.
  9. What was surprising?
Maybe the fact that once the matatu was so full – in an 11 seater matatu they fitted in 26 people! Also the behaviour of some people like our sign language teacher who laughed hard while announcing the death of a child to a child. Also how bravely children coped with their diseases – they didn’t react to it at all and didn’t complain when they were unwell.
  10. What kind of additional information would you have liked to know before going to Kenya?
Nothing additional with what I was informed with already.
  11. For what kind of difficulties the new volunteers should prepare themselves for?
    Being away from the family.
  12. Tell about your favorite experience from Kenya?
There were many and again, hard to highlight. But I can bring out an situation in matatu when a man was asking me if i would want to marry him and i suggested him to marry a white chicken who was at that moment with us in a matatu. It made a lot of people laugh.
  13. Do you miss something from Kenya/Shianda?
Yes, I feel like my second family is here in Kenya.
  14. Any other comments:)
I just want to thank Mondo for this amazing opportunity and experience, this experience was filled with different colours and I just cannot put it all into words how this has affected me. And also I feel like in Kenya so many people have big warm hearts and a strong culture.
